West Virginians United Promote Inflation Fighting Legislation

WV leaders discuss benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act for WV families

CHARLESTON, WV — Last night, West Virginians United hosted a telephone town hall to promote the benefits of the historic Inflation Reduction Act. Thousands of Mountain State citizens joined the discussion moderated by Americans for Tax Fairness Executive Director Frank Clemente, and the panelists included West Virginia Delegates Mike Pushkin (D-37) and Kayla Young (D-35).

Together, the panelists praised U.S. Senator Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) work to pass the groundbreaking IRA that delivers for the people of West Virginia. The legislation will  improve the lives of working families by bringing down the prices of prescription drugs, health insurance, and home energy. Furthermore, it is fully paid for by curbing drug-corporation price gouging and by making billionaire corporations and the wealthy pay a fairer share of taxes. No one making under $400,000 will pay more in taxes, and the deficit will be reduced by $300 billion.

West Virginia Delegate Mike Pushkin (D-37), chair of the WV Democratic Party, said, “The Inflation Reduction Act is great news for West Virginia. We appreciate the work of Senator Joe Manchin because this bill will create jobs, make healthcare more affordable, reduce the national debt, and fight inflation. The bill also goes after ultra-wealthy tax cheats and makes sure they pay their fair share of taxes just like every working American.”

West Virginia Delegate Kayla Young (D-35) added, “This is a historic plan that will lower prices families pay for prescription drugs, health insurance, and home energy. In 2020, at least 55 of the largest corporations in America paid no federal corporate income taxes. That’s why there is now a 15% Minimum Corporate Tax on billionaire corporations as part of the IRA.”
