Morgantown Resident Mindy Salango to Testify Before Congress on Prescription Drug Pricing

As Congress works to pass the Build Back Better Act, which includes measures that would help to lower prescription drug prices, Mindy Salango will share her experience dealing with the high cost of her medication

(Morgantown, WV) — Local resident Mindy Salango, who is a Type 1 diabetic, is available to discuss her upcoming testimony to the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Friday, December 10th. Mindy will speak to her experience as a consumer who struggles to afford the high price of her insulin medication, and discuss how the prescription drug reforms in Build Back Better will help lower drug costs for her and other West Virginians.

The Oversight and Reform Committee hearing will examine the results of a three-year investigation into the pricing and business practices of drug companies that sell some of the costliest medications to patients and Medicare. The hearing will also examine the need for reforms that will lower the cost of prescription drugs, such as giving Medicare the power to negotiate drug prices, capping the price of insulin copays, and preventing the cost of drugs from rising faster than the rate of inflation.

You can watch Mindy’s testimony to the Committee here, on Friday, December 10th 2021, at 10:00 a.m. ET.

Mindy pays about $350 a month for her life saving insulin and daily supplies. Mindy is a mom, has a full time job with health insurance and still struggles to afford her medications.

Mindy has urged Congress to take immediate action to make prescription drugs more affordable, particularly lowering the price of insulin to prevent people from rationing their doses because they can’t afford the cost of the medication.

Mindy has previously shared her story with News and Sentinel, the Inter-Mountain, and WOWK-TV, among others.
